>Decorating spaces is all about shapes, textures and colors. Every room that one decorates has a certain character and these three aspects are what determine a room’s character and personality. When it comes to colors, warm colors give the room an earthy cheerful feel while cool colors project somberness, seriousness and a sense of purpose. Textures on the other hand give different impressions. Linear textures give a fluid feeling while checked or divergent textures give an impression of abstractness in the personality of the room.

However, shapes are what bring all this together. The character and personality of a room is incomplete without the right shapes to bring together all the different aspects of the room. Regular shapes, irregular shapes all say something different about the room being decorated. Feng Shui states that for a room to be in harmony there must be an element of fluidity in the room. This fluidity enables the different aspects of the room to flow into each other in a seamless tapestry of artistic ambiance. Oval area rugs are one piece of decoration that can help achieve this.

Beautiful hardwood oak flooring or pine flooring give a room that beautiful rustic look and the right angles can be beautifully complemented by having oval area rugs placed between different sets of furniture. One such set would be the dinning set. Beneath an oval table, an oval rug would create a unique space in the room without having to use any elaborate partitions. Selecting a different color rug makes this even more appropriate.

Another oval rug use may be in areas of the room that you would like to draw attention to. This could be your collection of crystal ware or that window with a glorious view. Oval rugs draw attention without standing out in an unsightly fashion.

Floor tiles are another texture that can be complemented with the right choice of oval area rugs. To break the monotony of the tiles in a room, throw in different textured and complementing colored oval accent rugs in the space between one furniture cluster and another; say the dinning set and sofa set. This provides a ‘bridge’ that ensures both a break in monotony but at the same time bringing all the furniture in the room together in concert.

Oval area rugs are a great way to infuse Feng Shui into a room. They also eliminate dead spaces that have a way of drawing attention for all the wrong reasons. Use them sparingly and tastefully nonetheless; a room full of oval rugs might just have a negative effect on your efforts. Remember, beauty, art and ambiances all have one thing in common; less is more.
